Between doting father Gao and his wife ‘Jade,’ the couple wound up with four darling children. While Ruby was born during wartime, her family had survived the Garlean conscription except for her brother Obsidian, most commonly known as Sid. The firstborn and only male took his training to heart, and steadily piqued Ruby’s interest with mammets and machina. Before he could complete his service, he was lost at sea. Ruby was ever the sensitive soul, and her first loss stung deep. As she regained her bearings to live in a world without Sid, she would rue the thought of living life to anything less than the fullest extent for him. Whereas Ruby adored her brother and attempted to send all sorts of correspondence, the Garleans simply saw a mutt and warm body to send off to fight. His willingness to serve helped the Kurosawa clan avoid the razed fate that some other families met.Her mother still has the softest spot out of everyone for Ruby and will always welcome her home with open arms. Her first role when coming to Othard was learning the way of a miko. The Kurosawa's ancestral Kami had always been Susanoo, but Jade was a shrine maiden for Konohanasakuya-hime. This sacred space was a boon for both her and Ruby alike, giving to the spirits as much as they sought their assistance. Even if they no longer work at the shrine, one can see the great regard both women still show for their deity. With Jade’s insistence, Ruby once compelled Susanoo’s strength for her bökh oaths yet she appeals now to his slain Kami for grace: Wakahirume. Her mother may have been a foreigner, but she motivated Ruby’s ascetic endeavors as if they guided her all along. Jade had been adopted at a young age, only to be whisked away across the oceans. She hasn't dared to track her origin or homeland — or even her given name. The motivation behind her international adoption might be concerning to an outsider, but it's a topic never mentioned within their household. She has been quite the hidden gem to hide herself from stigma, but used her time at home to truly set all four up for success. Emi leans a bit more boyish, hanging around the Shiokaze Hostelry long enough to sneak along Hunt Marks. Ruby can hardly stay in place for long. While her residence, certainly not for tax purposes, is still in Hingashi, she often travels to Vylbrand. The youngest Kurosawa leaps at any chance to visit and fish all around Limsa. She can barely tolerate the cold of Coerthas to see to her Ishgardian obligations, and they really are the stuffy sort! Her studies have taken her to Old Sharlayan as well, and yet she is not one to teleport. A keen eye could notice her clear distain of the Shroud — and still Ishgard — but she’ll merely whine about the dry air of Thanalan.Evident by her travels, Ruby loathes to commit to the same task, at the same time, day in and day out. Her clothwork is a commission only basis, and the talent was born out of a need to tailor her own wear. Too often does she find herself adjusting and embroidering her own wear — eventually evolving from a side hobby to a profession with the help of her mother.
